Our History.
“Alpha Lambda… has become the first chapter of Pi Kappa Phi in the State of Mississippi. The eyes of the state will be on this chapter to see what Pi Kappa Phi will mean to Mississippi… This means that every member will have to work for his fraternity, and every member has decided to do this in every way possible. ”
April 9, 1927
Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity was founded on December 10, 1904, on the campus of the College of Charleston by Andrew Alexander Kroeg Jr., Lawrence Harry Mixson, and Simon Fogarty Jr. Initially founded as Nu Phi, the fraternity consisted of 14 members to oppose the existing fraternities on campus’ political influence. Of those 14 members, only 7 were loyal to Nu Phi. Thus, those seven split off, and founded their own fraternity, which now, 120 years later, is Pi Kappa Phi.
The Alpha Lambda Chapter has a long and proud history at The University of Mississippi. Alpha Lambda was founded on April 9, 1927, as the first Pi Kapp chapter in Mississippi, when representatives from nine colleges and universities nationwide came together to initiate our chartering class. Since then, our brotherhood has carried on a long and proud history of service to the Ole Miss community, and has been the catalyst for countless friendships and lifelong bonds.
